under the cover - enjoy the silence

Blogging away in LA is back, and this time I'm looking at the newest cover variation of the Depeche Mode classic tune Enjoy the Silence by hot band Division Day. In my opinion they have managed to create a unique sound as an ode to an aforementioned classic.

Back in 1998, the alternative rock band Failure released their cover as part of the Depeche Mode tribute compilation For The Masses. In 2004, Enjoy the Silence was re-released as a single for the Depeche Mode remix project Remixes 81 - 04, and was titled Enjoy the Silence (Reinterpreted) or, more simply Enjoy the Silence 04. The "Reinterpreted" version was remixed by Mike Shinoda, rapper/producer for Linkin Park.

picture me in ten years time watching

It looks like
Anton Corbijn's biopic based on Ian Curtis, titled Control, has finally ready to go, after a successful premier at the Cannes Film Festival this past May. This film, based on the book Touching From a Distance, by Curtis' widow, Deborah (who is also co-producer), follows the life of the late musician; from the beginnings and success with his band Joy Division to his 1980 suicide.

I first heard about the film a few years ago, and I'm glad to see it will be released later this year in the states by
The Weinstein Company. In the mood, here are some samples of what to expect with a film of this nature.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Straight to You
Depeche Mode - Barrel of a Gun
U2 - Please
At The Drive-In - Invalid Litter Dept.
